The Cost of Good Health Why do we always give up what is good for us when life starts getting stressful? Many of my clients (especially women) often tell me they give up two very important things when life gets crazy: their sex life and anything healthy they are engaging in to improve their bodies." Why do we do this to ourselves? Women, especially, have a tendency to take care of everyone but themselves--we are the nurturers for everyone, but we put ourselves last, thinking we are selfish if we do otherwise. It is not selfish to take care of your health and well-being. As a matter of fact, your loved-ones will even suffer if you don't take care of yourself. There seems to be three main reasons people do not hire personal trainers: 1) Money 2) Time 3) Feeling it is selfish or vain to do so As for #3, it has been discussed above. For #2.....you need to make time. Yes, it requires sacrifice, but it's more about prioritizing what's important to you. And, for #1, consider the following: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Ben Franklin Our early politicians knew what they were talking about! The current political "bail out" trend will not trickle down to keeping you healthy. No one can treat your body like a foreclosed home! Your vitality is up to you. If you let your body crash like the stock market, no governmental entity can put you back together again--you're not humpty dumpty! Good health is not a luxury, but poor health will take away any luxury you have! So, before you run screaming "I can't afford to hire a personal trainer," or "I don't have time to take care of myself," let me give you some basic figures regarding the costs of poor health in the United States: *Cardiovascular Disease (the #1 killer of women) costs $400 Billion annually *Obesity costs $93 Billion annually *Arthritis costs $86 Billion annually *Smoking costs $97.6 Billion annually *Back pain costs $47 Billion annually *Depression costs $35 Billion annually *High Blood Pressure costs $66.4 Billion annually *Asthma costs $16.1 Billion annually .....for a grand total of $841.1 Billion EVERY YEAR!
With numbers like these, personal training looks like the Dollar Tree of health prevention! But more importantly, how much is feeling good worth to you?
