Meet Rebeca

Hello, fellow fitness enthusiast, and welcome to Wherever Wellness. I am Rebeca Porter, your personal trainer. I’m sure you have questions about anyone you allow into your home, so let me tell you about myself.

I have been physically active most of my life. I have played several sports and have been a regular exerciser for 13 years. Unfortunately, life has a way of taking its toll, and after a stressful job for several years, I found myself a very overweight person who had a drinking problem and was on antidepressants.  Before starting Wherever Wellness full-time, I was a teacher in public and college-level education for nearly a decade.  I enjoy the intrinsic rewards from helping others; however, my passion towards well-being and general health took a more concrete turn when my husband was stationed overseas. As the months passed by, I found myself plummeting into depression once again. My body became constantly fatigued and sore, I couldn’t sleep, I had severe panic attacks, and I no longer functioned productively at work. I was desperate for anything which would improve my mental and physical state. Knowing how depression and antidepressants affected me, I was determined to find another route to save my sanity and my body. This is when wellness became a pivotal part of my life.

I began collecting materials, (anything I could get), on fitness, nutrition, exercises, etc. which would help me. The only avenue I had for stress relief was physical exertion (lifting weights, jogging, kickboxing, etc.), and I soon became addicted to the way it made me feel. I became obsessed with putting good fuels into my body instead of quick fix junk because they enhanced my workouts.  My body changed (losing 42 lbs.) and my mental state was strong, and after 15 months overseas, my husband returned to find a different woman, inside and out. I was strong, healthy, happy, and confident.

Very soon, my passion for wellness began to morph into a desire to help others in the same fashion. I wanted to meld my love of education, health, and helping others. I wanted people to see how most health issues can be resolved with exercise and nutrition--that we don't have to be prisoners to negativity or depression.  This is when I discovered the American Counsil on Exercise and Personal Training. Having no background in human anatomy, medications, or injuries, the courses and exams were grueling; however, to date, I achieved 4 certifications:

*Personal Training
*Group Fitness
*Lifestyle and Weight Management Consulting
*Advanced Health and Fitness Specialist

I am qualified to train individuals with varying challenges, such as weight loss, arthritis, low-back pain, asthma, osteoporosis, pregnancy, and other serious health issues, such as CAD or the Metabolic Syndrome. My company, Wherever Wellness, came from my heart because I believe everyone should have the opportunity to be well, and I have now been in business successfully for three years.

When you hire a trainer, you must match not only your goals but also your personality to that trainer to be successful.  My philosophy on fitness is very simple:  it is crucial to a happy life!  I exercise and eat right to have quality moments in my life, to feel good, to look good, to sleep good, and to enjoy day-to-day activities to their fullest.  I exercise to help me deal with the stresses of life.  I exercise so I am not a burden to my family or the health system.  I exercise so that if there is something adventurous I want to do that requires physical exertion, I can do it.  And, I exercise so that I can lead an active life well into my elderly years.  I am a very realistic, down-to-earth person who enjoys key-lime pie, pizza, and a thick, juicy steak, and I exercise so I can enjoy these wonderful treats.  If you like my personality and realism, we may be well-matched.

It is imperative to accept that exercise and good nutrition will always be a part of your life, but, like me, you will come to enjoy it.  I love health, but keeping weight off and staying healthy will always be a challenge to me my entire life.  It can be done, though.  I consider myself a well-rounded, enthusiastic individual who enjoys life and its challenges. I have traveled abroad extensively, attended an international college, piloted helicopters, and even skydived. Life is what you make of it. I want to help you make yours fabulous. What’s your dream, and are you up for the challenges to make them happen?

In closing, please feel free to read the testimonials of other clients’ opinions of my training. I genuinely care about your health and well-being, and I will come to you at your convenience to help you reach your goals. Together we can achieve complete wellness.
